Your reason • 01

A first safari, done properly

For the traveller who has waited years for Africa. The Falls ease you in; the Delta shows you what a private safari can be.

Your reason • 02

A honeymoon or anniversary

Sunset on the Zambezi, then a camp with a handful of suites and nobody else in sight.

Your reason • 03

A return to Africa

You have done Kruger or the Serengeti. Botswana's private concessions are the next step: fewer vehicles, more freedom.

Your reason • 04

A journey with friends

Close friends finally turning a long-discussed safari into a shared, private adventure.

Why combine them

Thundering water, then total silence.

Victoria Falls is spray, noise and scale. The Okavango Delta is the opposite: a few guests, a few vehicles, and a silence broken only by birdsong and the occasional lion. They sit close enough to join without long drives, and differ enough that neither repeats the other.

Easy logisticsKasane is a short road transfer from the Falls; light aircraft fly on into the Delta.
Chobe on the wayOne of Africa's great elephant rivers, with boat safaris and little extra travel.
Private concessionsSelected camps offer night drives and walks that national parks usually do not.
Low visitor numbersBotswana's high-value, low-volume approach means you rarely share a sighting.

When to travel

The Falls and the Delta peak at different times.

The best month depends on what matters most to you: the Falls at full power, the Delta in flood, or the dry-season game viewing. We plan around both.

January – March

Green season

Victoria Falls
Water rising; lush and green
Okavango Delta
Young animals, migrant birds, excellent photography and the year's lowest rates
April – May

Transition

Victoria Falls
Peak flow; heavy spray can hide the view
Okavango Delta
Rains ease, temperatures cool and floodwater begins to arrive
June – August

Peak flood

Victoria Falls
Strong flow with clearer views
Okavango Delta
The flood usually peaks around July: ideal for mokoro and boating at water camps
September – December

Dry heat to first rains

Victoria Falls
Lower water; rock face visible in Zimbabwe, Devil's Pool in Zambia
Okavango Delta
Hot, dry months concentrate wildlife; November brings the first rains

For the best of both, travel in June or July: the Delta in flood and the Falls strong but visible.

Getting around

From the Falls to the Delta by road and light aircraft.

Every transfer is arranged, confirmed and met. Inside Botswana you fly on Wilderness Air's scheduled seat-in-plane circuit, linking Kasane, the Linyanti, the Delta camps and Maun.

  1. Arrive at Victoria Falls. Fly into Victoria Falls Airport (Zimbabwe) or Livingstone (Zambia), usually via Johannesburg. You are met and driven to your lodge.
  2. Cross into Botswana. A private road transfer of around 80 km takes you to Kasane through the Kazungula border, normally 1 to 1.5 hours including formalities.
  3. Fly from Kasane. The light aircraft leaves Kasane for the camps in the early afternoon. You stay in Chobe first, or fly straight on the day you leave the Falls.
  4. Between camps. Short, scenic seat-in-plane hops connect the Linyanti and the Delta camps, landing on each camp's own airstrip.
  5. Fly home from Maun. Your last flight takes you to Maun, which connects to Johannesburg for your international flight.

13:00Arrive at Kasane Airport when coming by road from Victoria Falls or Livingstone
14:00–14:30Daily Kasane departure into the camps, timed to meet international flights

Good to know

  • Exact flight times are confirmed by the camp the night before each flight.
  • Light aircraft allow around 20 kg per person in a soft bag, including hand luggage. We can store extra luggage for you.
  • The KAZA UNIVISA covers Zimbabwe and Zambia for many visitors. Botswana is visa-free for most US, UK and EU passports. We confirm the rules for your passport when we plan.
  • Northern Botswana and Victoria Falls are malaria areas. Ask your doctor about prevention before you travel.

What your journey covers

Fully inclusive does most of the heavy lifting.

The Wilderness FI basis makes life in the Delta effortless. The main extra planning items are the Falls, Chobe and the flights that connect them, all built into your proposal.

Included in Delta camp rates

  • Accommodation
  • All meals
  • Twice-daily scheduled camp activities
  • Park fees
  • Laundry
  • Local drinks

Quoted separately

  • Victoria Falls and Chobe accommodation
  • Light-aircraft flights and transfers to and from camps
  • International flights, visas and travel insurance
  • Premium imported drinks and champagne
  • Optional activities such as helicopter flights
  • Private vehicles or private activities unless quoted

Understanding the journey

Two great rivers, two very different journeys.

The Zambezi plunges over Victoria Falls just downstream of where it meets the Chobe. The Okavango, by contrast, never reaches the sea: its floodwater from the Angolan highlands spreads into the Kalahari and peaks in Botswana months after the rains fall. That is why your travel month shapes which camps we recommend.

Frequently asked questions

Planning Victoria Falls & the Okavango Delta

How many nights do I need for Victoria Falls and the Okavango Delta?

Seven nights is the minimum we recommend: two at the Falls, two in Chobe and three in one Delta camp. Nine to eleven nights lets you stay at two contrasting Delta camps, pairing a wildlife-led land camp with a water camp.

What is the best time to visit Victoria Falls and the Okavango Delta?

June to August is the best overall balance: the Delta flood is usually at its peak around July and the Falls still flow strongly with clearer views. September and October are hotter and drier, and January to March offers green-season value.

How do I get from Victoria Falls to the Okavango Delta?

A private road transfer takes you to Kasane in Botswana in around 1 to 1.5 hours. From there, Wilderness Air's light aircraft depart Kasane in the early afternoon for your camp's airstrip. Tourgy Tourz arranges and confirms every connection.

Are the light-aircraft flights included in the prices shown?

No. The prices shown cover the Wilderness fully inclusive camp nights only. Access flights, Victoria Falls and Chobe accommodation are quoted separately and included in your complete Tourgy Tourz proposal.

Should I see Victoria Falls from Zimbabwe or Zambia?

Zimbabwe has the wider views of the main falls. Zambia gives access to Livingstone Island and, at low water, Devil's Pool. Many visitors can see both with the KAZA UNIVISA.

Is this journey suitable for older travellers?

Yes. The camps are small and comfortable, activities are guided at an unhurried pace, and light-aircraft transfers replace long drives. Tell us about any mobility needs and we will choose camps to suit.

Tell us what this journey means to you.

Share your dates, who is travelling and the story behind the trip: a honeymoon, a milestone, a long-awaited first safari. We will recommend the camps, routing and pace that make the journey feel like yours.
